Elemental, Abstract, Infinite in Aspect

But it is the modern. properly understood, without the biases against tradition that first identified its nature, that produces the wider culture, sustaining the abstract values and the permanent things in the course of progress.

Other Dimensions
Aesthetic sound art is as accessible as listening, and hearing.
The composer may experiment, theorize, and speculate, exploring the range of possible aural forms while developing individual perspectives and methods over the course of decades. Regardless, if the purpose and effect is that of the creation of the good and the beautiful, there can simply be no greater meaning than the integrity of work itself.
Each listening experience is its own.

Expansion
There is always the impulse to narrow perception of objects and events to superficial, subjective definitions.
Recognize, be receptive, or reject outright. But this is not aesthetic discrimination, the discernment of expression and meaning. For the listener, and composer as well, it is a matter of thought as well as experience. Mere openness or close-mindedness is not enough to contend with the complexities of reality and appearances, and is self-defeating.
To extend one's reach toward immersion in the good and the beautiful is to elevate awareness of the unity of being.

Being, Listening, Hearing
Matters of taste reflect cultural conditions as well as individual discrimination.
The content of culture changes, as do the perceptions and processes by which culture is understood and engaged. Simplistic and materialistic attitudes and philosophical and conceptual perspectives are always in opposition. The contention between historical forces such as these is reflected in current events, concrete artifacts, artistic representations, music, and in the written transmission of culture.
The transient material world rises and falls, while the poetic forms remain universal.

Art, Idea and Act
What can be conceived artistically can be assessed and developed according to its virtues.
Clearly, there are challenges to be overcome in bringing into being works that reflect truly the vision of the artist's imagination. These will be numerous, and vary in degrees of difficulty.
The greater the challenge, the more patience proves essential. There must be resources with which to work, there must be time to gain knowledge, skills, critical insight; these must be applied with an eye to risk, failure, and gain, and the will to accept results and modify approaches.
Acceptance of the idea of art as the work of a lifetime is an existential commitment.
To those who make that choice, and to those that support them, godspeed the new year's journey.

Reason and Vision
Ideas imply responsibilities.
The gifts of knowledge and and understanding bring with them an awareness of the necessity of sharing them, and of expressing them with integrity and honesty. To be realistic, one must be cognizant of the negative aspects of cultural phenomena as well, and be prepared to counter them with reason and example. It is a challenge to see beyond the superficial and the absurd, and to creatively engage in communicating ways to look beyond the trivial and mundane.
But it was ever thus, and thus the value of the arts and sciences.

Depth, distance, clarity, obscurity, reflection, texture, intensity, proximity, color, tone, and meaning.
Within human and natural settings-- the perceived subjective experience of environment and atmosphere, with its associated emotional and intellectual connotations-- these measurements, among others, serve as intuitive guides to our journey, our movements, and our actions.
If the senses are reliable and the chosen courses of action true, the journey is graced with integrity, balance, spirit and reason, especially in adversity. If life is torn by contradictions, driven and dominated by the passions and appetites, perhaps some good will come of it, but whatever measures may determine that are vague at best.
Culture is ever in flux, ever subject to events and ideas, some meritorious, some ruinous.

Reality, Existence and Art
Chaos and order exist together.
Disordered thinking is manifested in daily living as impatience, emotional instability, clutter, hazard, and noise. Chaos happens of itself; it is trifling, irrevalent, and easy to perpetuate.
To create a perspective free of the pettiness of chaos is no small challenge, and requires effort and vision equal to the task. Beyond the labor and choices involved, it is also an art.
Out of that art comes culture, and its strength.

Virtue and The Good
Ideas flow throughout culture over time; some run dry, others permeate the social and cultural strata.
If what the philosophers say is true, happiness is a life of virtue according to reason. Its pursuit engages the spiritual faculties, which are Reason and Free Will. The Good being self-evident, all else is illusion, delusion, vanity, pride, conceit-- obstacles to the quest.
