Week 24 6/17/18

More often than not, the artist, at least, must transcend culture.

It is an infantile mistake to conflate high degrees of specialized knowledge with moral reason. The source and origin of critical, creative vision lies far beyond such common perspectives.

Week 23 6/10/18

In listening, and hearing, perceive source and origin without predetermined perspective.

This is accomplished without imposition of attitude or prejudice. One does not project emotion or idea, apprehending, instead, direct impression.  Develop the aural composition accordingly, to the extent possible, and the formation of atmosphere and art come about with clarity.

This is merely an ideal to be approached, rather than a superficial goal or ultimate objective.

Week 22 6/3/18

It is a curious thing to create something markedly different from previous forms, if similar in nature.

Research tone poems, Erik Satie, Debussy, Cage, Eno, yet move continuously away from both "music" and "noise". The aural aesthetic remains, while musical paradigms diminish.

Those who are said to have heard music in paranormal or "enchanted" settings describe a kind of enigmatic impression of beautiful sounds that cannot be recollected or re-created in musical terms.

Such impressions may lend themselves to altered perceptual awareness, changes in attention, emotional perspective, and cognitive acuity, or even elevated states of consciousness.

Week 21 5/27/18

A creator must have a dynamic perspective.

The inevitability of change demands recognition of opportunities.

Sunday, May 20, 2018

Week 20 5/20/18

Have you heard the term "avant-garde" lately?

Such is the unfortunate nature of a complacent culture, lacking in foresight and vision.  Nonetheless, one moves, and moves forward.

Sunday, May 13, 2018

Week 19 5/13/18

Some simply accept.

Others expect more, desire more, and do more. They see, they listen, and hear. They create.

Sunday, May 06, 2018

Week 18 5/6/18

Find a way, among many, and choose.

This is the nexus of perception and expression.

Sunday, April 29, 2018

Week 17 4/29/18

Simplicity is much to be desired.

Perceive directly, and recognize when perceptions are manipulated.

Sunday, April 22, 2018

Week 16 4/22/18

Be aware, conscious of  the reality of individual perception.

For the atmospheric composer, this means apprehending the essential synthesis of presence and perception, yielding aural textures, patterns, and myriad qualities of the sonic field.

Sunday, April 15, 2018

Week 15 4/15/18

Quiet the mind.

Listen, and hear, in ways unobstructed by subjectivity, and by external pressures or agendas.

Week 14 4/8/18

Atmospheric sounds, though not necessarily musical in nature, may be emulated.

Thus such sounds may be arranged, even "orchestrated", in aesthetic, if not overtly musical, form.

Sunday, April 01, 2018

Week 13 4/1/18

Establish limits in order to transcend them.

Thus discipline gives rise to freedom, elevating responsibility to art and expression.

Sunday, March 25, 2018

Week 12 3/25/18

One can not perceive sound alone.

Nonetheless, one may set aside myriad cultural contexts to listen, and hear, with clarity.

Sunday, March 18, 2018

Week 11 3/18/18

What appears to be "random" occurs as part of a larger pattern.

Close the eyes, erase subjectivity, and focus the concentration on sound only.  As the fullness of sounds reveals itself, imagine the combinations in compositional form, continuing to expand.

Sunday, March 11, 2018

Week 10 3/11/18

Aesthetic vision transcends identity, or fails both.

Art has been subjected to the wretched perspectives of identity politics for a century, and this must be brought to an end, by vigorous application of moral reason and courageous individual expression.

Sunday, March 04, 2018

Week 9 3/4/18

Do not falsify experience with "narratives".

Instead, offer rational observations as objectively as possible. This is cultural awareness that is communicated clearly, not obscured by guile and pretense, and lends authenticity to art.

Sunday, February 25, 2018

Week 8 2/25/10

Transpose the visual into sound.

Consequently, perceive atmospheric qualities, sense tone, depth, illusions of distances, apparent patterns.  Yet this is something that is not the same as "music", nor is it meant to be so.

Sunday, February 18, 2018

Week 7 2/18/18

Consider life's richness, subtlety, and mystery.

One artist's business is to bring these understandings within reach, while another abandons them for social, cultural, and political agendas.  Discern the reality.

Sunday, February 11, 2018

Week 6 2/11/18

Sound intellect is not conferred by academic degrees, but developed by painstaking application of moral reason.

The historic cycle dominated by the collectivist mentality of the past century is coming to a close with the worst of its elements collapsing in full view of the astute cultural observer.  Following this state of affairs, the self-reliant will prosper, and mere propaganda will be transcended by the force of individual expression that will appear in entirely unexpected, visionary ways.

Sunday, February 04, 2018

Week 5 2/4/18

The artist is perceiver; the work of the artist is expression.

In a universal sense, the business of the arts is to communicate and enlighten.

Sunday, January 28, 2018

Week 4 1/28/18

The enlightened individual avoids attachment.

There are, nonetheless, responsibilities, assumed and imposed. Transient actions, expressions, and things impact the progress of change.

And this, too, is a philosophy of composition.  Listen, and hear.

Sunday, January 21, 2018

Week 3 1/21/18

Phenomena, impression, communication.

It is necessary to convey understanding of reality. This is essential in times when false judgments are taken for literal fact, history is re-scripted to suit political agendas, and culture is manipulated with the intent of silencing individual expression.

Sunday, January 14, 2018

Week 2 1/14/18

The typical perspective on music is that it is a linear form, in linear time.

Instead, imagine time, and thus composition of sound, as occurring in expanding cycles.

Week 1 1/7/18

Nikola Tesla observed the essential nature of "energy, frequency, and vibration" in reality.

Additionally, Tesla encouraged inquiry into "non-physical phenomena".  Examine such observations as they relate to "music" etc., but beyond this, in relation to auditory perception generally, and to non-musical constructions and their effects.
